Dagenham & Redbridge, We're On Our Way Back!

Wow! That’s the type of signing we’ve been crying out for… Mr Paul McCallum – arguably the best striker in the league! Now, obviously it came at a price (the loss of two great defensive players) but I believe, though we have to wait and see, it’s a price worth paying. Paul is tied down until 2023 unless, God forbid, there is a Wilkinson-style buyout clause – let’s hope that isn’t the case! The price perhaps may not be as much as first thought though because it’s believed he was forcing a permanent move back down south after a short stay at Solihull Moors where he was loaned out to Barnet - he admitted that at the Moors ‘things just didn’t work out.’ Let’s turn our attention to just why it’s a price worth paying – Paul is a proven, prolific goal scorer – the stats don’t lie. The signing of George Saunders sparked excitement on Friday on stats alone - the young talent impressed. But what other reasons are there for him being such a great signing - here are 5 below:  1. YOUNG, LOCAL TALENT George spent 3 seasons at Billericay Town in their youth side before joining Harold Hill in the Essex Olympian League in 2016. He then went to Kelvedon Hatch at the start of 2017/18 where he quickly established himself in their first team, and was a regular last season. George stepped up four divisions to play for Hornchurch in the pre-season matches, and, although only 19, made a number of impressive appearances. George made his debut for Hornchurch on 11th August 2018 in a 3-0 home win vs Leatherhead. He had an outstanding match, setting up Hornchurch’s 3rd goal. The fact he is young means he has plenty of time to progress but also young is synonymous with fearlessness in the sporting arena and let’s hope he can bring that to the side - an element of risk.  As
