This is the seventeenth instalment of the ‘DAGENHAM AND ME’ series in which we explore fans’ and former players’ relationship with the club. This will be done over the Christmas period with interesting stories being told daily and debate will no doubt spark over Dagenham’s all-time XI! Behind door number 17 is supporter, MICHAEL, enjoy :)

Full Name: Michael Howarth

My favourite player currently is Elliot Justham - last season’s player of the year- he rescued countless points for us last campaign and could possibly do the same this season. I am a season ticket holder in the terraces on the halfway line – great view – I have been going since the turn of the century.

That season, my first as a Dagger, was of course the title winning one and the first league title in the club’s history. Paul Cobb was the out top scorer in that season as Dagenham & Redbridge moved on up to the Conference. It also saw Dagenham record 101 points under Garry Hill! My first game was at Victoria Road as Dagenham faced Northwich Victoria - of course a magical day!

My favourite game was not that one though as my favourites were goal-fests with 18 goals in these two games they were crackers. Firstly, the Capital One Cup tie against Brentford that finished in defeat on penalties for Dagenham but was 6-6 after extra time. The 12 goal thriller saw the Daggers defeated 2-4 on pens but you couldn’t have asked for a much more eventful night.

Secondly, another in which the mighty Daggers scored six only this time without reply back in 2010 as they put one foot into the play-off final. The star on the day was Josh Scott who netted four times in the first leg of the play-off semi-final and we all know what happened in the next two games!

From favourite game to Christmas game and it can’t be anything other than Orient at home last season – a great comeback and victory against bitter rivals. Nunn’s delight after that winner went in: it was priceless!

Best manager would have to be without a shadow of a doubt John Still as he simply took the club to new heights – a fantastic manager! And the same can be said for Paul Benson, a great player who had a huge part in taking the club to new heights. Paul is my favourite player alongside another prolific goal scorer in Mark Stein.

My best away day is fairly different from others and it is Hartlepool away last season, the unlikely lads Goodliffe and Robinson netting within the final three minutes was incredible. When Goodliffe scored you thought it couldn’t get better but then Matt’s first goal for the club, well, what a first goal!
Here is my Ultimate Daggers XI; not a traditional style but there are some I just couldn’t leave out!
