This is the eleventh instalment of the ‘DAGENHAM AND ME’ series in which we explore fans’ and former players’ relationship with the club. This will be done over the Christmas period with interesting stories being told daily and debates will no doubt spark over Dagenham’s Ultimate XI!  Behind door number 11 is supporter, MARK enjoy :)

FULL NAME: Mark Smith

My favourite player currently is Joan Luque as he is so often a threat down that left wing.

I will be a season ticket holder as I just bought a half year one, but no not a full season ticket holder. When I go I am normally found behind the goal at the Bury Road End.

My first game was against Woking in October of 1992 at home, started following from then. Effectively from the beginning of the merger of Dagenham and Redbridge so have been following the Mighty Daggers.

Most people might know me from selling programmes in the car park or at half time and also being the club mascot, DIGGER THE DOG!

My favourite game has got to be Hampton and Richmond away in the Ryman league in 1999-2000 as it was the game where we became league champions to go back in to the conference. We achieved that after finishing the game with 9 men - crazy!

I can’t think of a favourite Xmas game as there are just so many but I do have a favourite Christmas song. That song is Bruce Springsteen, ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’, also Elmo and patsy ‘gamma got run over by a reindeer’  and Darlene love - All alone on Xmas (from home alone 2).

My relationship with the club now is more than just turning up on game day paying to get in, watch the game then go home. As opposed to that I'm part of the match day experience; being the mascot, selling programmes e.t.c

The best Daggers manager is easily Ted Hardy - he was a right old school manager. From favourite manager to player of all time and for me it has got to be Lee Matthews. Don’t think I ever saw him have a bad game and Mark stein - you could tell this guy had played in the Premier League.

My best away day, now I Chose this game because of the coach travel to and from the game and being with my mates etc. It has got to be 2000-01 season away to Lincoln city in the fa cup 2nd round, we were a second from getting a draw. Then up steps Mark Janney to put us though to the 3rd round for the first time. Celebrating with all my mates after the game - just the whole day was brilliant.

Here is Mark’s Ultimate Daggers XI and Tony Roberts’ 100% record has been lost!
