In this five-part series I assess who should be next to step into the dugout as Taylor’s successor. The fans want a young, hungry and exciting manager and it is thought to be dependant on who makes the decision - Thompson or the owners - whether we get that or not. The final candidate is Darren Currie who is currently manager of Barnet.

Age: 45

Playing Career:

Currie is a former Dagger who has made over 600 appearances in the football league for many clubs. He most notably played for Wycombe (126 apps) and Barnet (127 apps) but also played for the likes of Brighton, Ipswich and Luton among others.

The former midfielder who played during the season that saw the Daggers promoted to League One also coached at the club.

Managerial Career:

Darren was assistant under Wayne Burnett and interim manager for two game’s following Wayne’s departure. Currie then returned to his role as assistant manager as John Still was re-appointed at Victoria Road before leaving with still in 2018. He was Still’s assistant at his beloved Barnet prior to Still’s departure when he became interim manager before landing the job on a permanent basis.

His win percentage stands at 36% after winning 22 of his 60 games since his appointment as Bees manager this time last year. As it stands, Barnet sit 12th, currently seven points above Dagenham as we go into the new year.

Darren Currie would be a divisive appointment I feel among fans but I personally believe he would be the man to take us to the football league. He is a young, exciting manager but many believe it’s not a realistic anyhow as there is a suggestion ahe wouldn’t want to leave his club - Barnet. Although with our owners and ambition I believe any manager is a possibility (within reason)!
