Boreham Wood: Preview
Today, The Daggers return to Victoria Road as they look to get back on track against Boreham Wood. The visitors currently sit 1 point and three places below Dagenham heading into this match with two 2-2 draws and a defeat. Whereas the hosts go into this one after a frustrating trip to Halifax which ended in defeat, the two games prior to the travel to The Shay saw Dagenham win at Dover though lose to Woking. That Woking defeat came at today’s venue meaning Peter Taylor’s new players are yet to secure any points at home - hopefully today is the day and they get their first three at ‘The home of football’.
Below is Taylor’s line up on Saturday followed by preferred XI:
This is the XI that Taylor out out at The Shay where The Daggers were defeated 1–0 in a game that saw one team simply be more clinical than the other. That leads me on to the first point which is Taylor’s choice to start Quigley was poor, it was poor due to the fact that the striker’s recent form has seen him score no goals in three games.
Quigley misses sitter
Therefore I would give our other striker Reece Grant a chance at proving himself as he did score 11 goals in struggling sides last season. Finally, the fact that Graham (who is traditionally a left midfielder) started at LB despite the fact we have two left backs in the squad I believe needs to change.
My Daggers XI
This is my team that I would start at Victoria Road , assuming Onariase and Odametey aren’t fit, with two changes from Taylor’s team. One of those changes is Liam Gordon ,an academy graduate, for Bagasan Graham - a straight swap at left back. Liam Gordon is yet to be given a shot this season by Peter Taylor despite his fine form last campaign earning him a place in the top 3 of the POTY awards. Lastly, I have put Grant in as oppose to Quigley due to reasons discussed above in my previous explanation. The main reason being his awful form which has seen him yet to score this season and it’s not just that more his overall performance and lack of energy.
Turning our attention to Boreham Wood who we face today, they are yet to secure a victory this season. Despite that, The Wood have netted five times which is three more times than Dagenham whose only goals came in a 2-1 win over Dover. As previously mentioned, Luke Garrard’s side are yet to secure a victory and sit in 20th though a win today would take them above The Daggers. Their danger man is Tshimanga who scored two last time out and 24 goals in total last campaign - stopping Kabongo Tshimanga is key to Dagenham’s victory today.
I predict a 1-0 score line which would see Dagenham scoop their first three points and clean sheet of the season. I believe that The Daggers are solid at the back but will struggle up top Howe they will still nick a goal.
